The Benefits of Physiotherapy for Osteoarthritis

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all having a great summer!

We wanted to share this link with you to an interesting article from the British Journal of Sports Medicine that speaks to the benefits of starting physiotherapy earlier rather than later, and the relation to future risk of opioid use in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA).

This article is based off of a study conducted with data from a group of adults with mild to moderate knee OA referred for physiotherapy within 1 year of diagnosis.

Results concluded that delayed initiation of physiotherapy was positively correlated with a higher risk of opioid use in people with knee OA. Furthermore, the longer the delay in physiotherapy initiation, the greater was the risk.
